5 for Friday & Minecraft!

Hey y'all! I am so excited - I just got back from a phenomenal, inspiring technology conference. Two days of eating at a normal pace, having adult conversations centered around innovative ideas, using the restroom WHENEVER I needed to! (Seriously one of my favorite parts of conferences...you know how it is.) The time spent collaborating and sharing ideas with other teachers who are so dedicated to teaching their children how to learn has been so energizing. Just what I needed after these cold, snowy, endless winter weeks!

Here are my 5 for Friday! Hope everyone had a great week! :)

Anyone else’s students ObSeSsEd with Minecraft?! Almost all of my sweet little ones ordered the Scholastic book that’s still on back orderI may have a mutiny on my hands soon.
Anyways – using their love of the game, the moving stories from the conference, and my love for all things techy Ive decided:

I want to start a Minecraft club at our school.

After school, once a week, kids playing Minecraft. It seems like a very doable, yet extensive project. It’s going to take a lot of work on my end to get it started, and I’m going to need to learn how to set up servers, etc. which I have absolutely NO clue how to do yet. BUT I’m thrilled at the idea of learning how to do it and the possibilities of how beneficial this could be for my kiddos! One of the fabulous 3rd grade teachers at our school is on board too and willing to help so together we should hopefully get things rolling on Monday! J CAN’T WAIT!

*PS: Have any of you started a Minecraft club/use it at school?? Any advice is welcome!!

Also at the conference  got to try on Google glasses for the first time! Super sweet  way too distracting for me to ever think of using at this

time though! I’d never get anything done haha.

It was dress up as your favorite book character on Monday. Here is a (blurry) picture of Junie B. Jones, Pinkalicious, Spiderman, Viola Swamp, Baby Mouse, and Peeta!
I’M FINALLY GOING SNOWBOARDING AGAIN THIS WEEKEND!! I positively love, love, love snowboarding. Since moving down south I don’t have the chance to go as often as I’d like, but this weekend I’ll be hitting the slopes with a bunch of friends and I couldn’t be more excited!

Last, but certainly not least, my brother’s fiancé just got our bridesmaids dresses in! She’s going to be able to bring it out here on their vacation! Woohoo! I don’t have a pic. handy but they’re beautiful! Which is another great #5 - in  2 weeks I get to see my parents, brother, and his fiance! <3 So many things to be grateful of this week!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

5 for Friday annnd the winners are... !

Engineering Week - one of the most fun, yet exhausting weeks of the school year for us! The 4th grade challenge was, "Lighting the Lighthouse." They had to engineer a lighthouse that met certain criteria.

We spent all week planning, designing, creating, testing, and improving our lighthouses. It was exhausting but SO incredibly rewarding. The students gain so much from this week and the collaborative projects. Thursday their families, community members, and news crew always come to watch their tests.  As you can imagine the school was buzzing!! Then on Friday real engineers come in and help them improve their designs. So much hard work went into their projects & I couldn't have been more proud of them! J Here are some photos!

One of my best friends is having her bridal shower this weekend! We met through teaching in Spain. Because of our fun connection my gift is Spain themed and has fun Sangria recipes for us to try this summer! (or this weekend…)

My friend & I are going to do the rock & roll half marathon this fall!! It will by my 3rd half and our 2nd half together!

I went a little crazy shopping the last 2 days at the TPT sale! But I got so many cute things that I can't wait to start using!! My kids have been struggling with fractions and loving board games recently so I bought these and am going to start creating today!! Hopefully their faces light up on Monday :)
